A war of words has already erupted three days before the three National First Division (NFD) derby matches scheduled for this weekend.

Nathi Lions host Durban Stars at King Zwelithini Stadium in an NFD Coastal Stream KwaZulu-Natal derby on Friday at 3pm.

The match was scheduled for Saturday but had to be rescheduled because of the Telkom Cup's last 16 match between Golden Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs.

"The boys are in good form and they cannot allow Stars to stand in their way. We have to win the three points to enhance our promotion chances and also for the club's pride," Joshua Ndwandwe, Lions' manager, said yesterday.

His counterpart at Stars, Phindani Nene, responded: "We will be in full force to pocket maximum points, considering that most of our players will be back from injuries. Sparks will fly as it used to happen in the past."

Hanover Park's chairman Rieduwaan Anthony is adamant his side will collect maximum points in a Western Cape derby against Ikapa Sporting on Saturday at Erica Park.

Winners Park and Black Leopards will be involved in a Limpopo derby at Malamulele stadium on Saturday.

"We have a score to settle with Leopards and winning this match will put us back into the contest," Stan Mokgawa of Winners Park said.

Leopards' Tshifhiwa Thidiela acknowledges that it will be a tough assignment.
