Our Giant set to defend his title

Last year's Charity Mile November Handicap winner Our Giant is set to defend his title on November 1.

Last year's Charity Mile November Handicap winner Our Giant is set to defend his title on November 1.

Our Giant was one of 33 entries in this year's R600000 Grade 2 race, which will be run on the standside track at Turffontein.

The five-year-old has won four races since beating Biarritz by 0.50 lengths in this race last year, including the Horse Chestnut Stakes over this same course and distance in April.

Last Saturday he showed he's on the top of his game when he raced over 1450m on the inside track at Turffontein and maintained his unbeaten record over that trip by beating Kingdom Come impressively.

His trainer, Charles Laird, has also entered Likeithot and talented four-year-old Smart Banker, who has won four of eight career starts.

Kingdom Come is one of four runners entered by SA trainers' log-leader Geoff Woodruff. He has also nominated Buscador and Profit Report, first and second in the Nomads Hyperion Handicap at Turffontein last Saturday, and six-time winner Chariots Of Fire.

Ruling champion trainer Mike de Kock's four-pronged entry includes Galant Gagnant, Gilded Minaret, Lubricator and Rudra, while KwaZulu-Natal-based Michael Roberts has entered his charge Tropical Empire, who visited the Highveld recently to contest the Emerald Cup at the Vaal.

Supplementary entries fall due on Monday October 20 with final acceptances on Thursday October 23.
