After a 10-year tussle for Zwai Bala, Melanie Sonn is about to finally have things her way.

Bala and Sonn will be united in holy matrimony at Sonn's home in Tshwane next month.

A family source told Sowetan that preparations were already in place.

"Last week the bride and the bridesmaids went for fittings. Everyone is excited about the wedding."

Sonn and Bala have a child. The source said Bala had already paid ilobolo.

"Melanie's parents did not want Zwai to pay ilobolo but he insisted on doing it. The ceremony will only be performed in Tshwane because Bala does not have a traditional home."

The relationship has had its ups and downs. In 2005 it was reported that Bala had proposed to the beautiful Sonn - after seven years of dating. But within a few weeks of his proposal Bala dumped her.

There were allegations that Sonn once fought with Caroline Fassie over Bala. A profile of her in a newspaper 16 years ago said she was 22 years old, making her 38 this year.

Bala is however reluctant to talk about the marriage.

"I don't know what you are talking about," he said before slamming the phone down.

Sonn said: "I do not want to discuss this with you."

But when Sowetan called one of Bala's cousins to ask how preparations were going, she said they were going well, confirming that the marriage was on.
