IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi has reiterated that there won't be a merger or marriage between the IFP and the ANC or the splinter party.

Speaking in Ulundi at an IFP Women's Brigade meeting, Buthelezi said his party was not interested in joining the splinter party from the ANC or the ANC itself.

Buthelezi said two months ago ANC president Jacob Zuma made statements that ignited rumours that there was going to be a merger between the two parties.

Zuma urged members of the Twelve Apostolic Church to pray that the "IFP and ANC may have this love demonstrated by you . so that there may be a marriage that results from this love".

"With the unfolding of events, one wonders if he had already planned the ANC divorce and was out looking for another wife," Buthelezi said.

"This divorce within the ANC has thrown the party into deeper turmoil. We will not be tainted with the same brush of political crises.

"There is no intention of a merger or marriage as we did not accept the proposal then, we will not accept any overtures now."

Buthelezi said the IFP stood for values that could not be compromised.
