Soweto will be given a spiritual impetus when the Soweto Gospel Choir take to the stage at the Peace, Power and Wisdom In Changing Times conference.

The conference takes place today at Maponya Mall from 7pm until 9pm.

It is hosted by the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University as a community-outreach event to promote non-violence and peace.

The programme is part of an African initiative to promote values of peace and empowerment on the continent. Entrance is free.

The organisers say: "In today's world, there is a high level of stress and worry.

There is global uncertainty regarding economic forecasts, political instability, lack of security, and climate change. People are feeling unsettled and anxious.

"Deep down inside, we all live with the fear that we cannot actually control all the factors that influence our lives."

The Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University of South Africa is part of an international organisation that promotes spiritual understanding, leadership with integrity and elevated actions towards a better world.

The keynote speakers at the conference tonight will be Yvonne Kgame and Markus Moses.
