The husband of the Seshego woman who was found dead with her son two months ago has been arrested.

The woman was stabbed several times, while her son was found floating in a bath.

Her husband, Karel Mkhabela, was initially held for questioning and released. The couple's neighbour was subsequently arrested for the crime.

Sowetan has learnt that Mkhabela's neighbour and alleged accomplice, Joel Matabane, 27, confessed to the murders and implicated Mkhabela, resulting in his arrest.

Sergeant Mothemane Malefo yesterday confirmed the arrest of Mkhabela on Monday.

Mkhabela was denied bail and remanded in custody until his next court appearance on October 15.

The woman's husband was involved in the planning of the murders

Mkhabela's wife, Felicia, 32, and their son, Musa, 4, were found dead at their home in Zone 3 on August 27.

When Mkhabela was questioned initially, he allegedly told police he was away attending a relative's funeral at the time of the two murders.

"We can confirm that further investigations resulted in the arrest of the woman's husband," Malefo said yesterday.

"From what we have gathered so far, though the husband was not physically involved in the killings, he was involved in the planning," said Malefo.

Mkhabela is a self-employed sign writer.

His wife, who came from NkowaNkowa outside Tzaneen, worked at the Polokwane municipality.
