Stop carnage

The current death toll on Mpumalanga roads has made the province one of the unsafest in the country for motorists.

The current death toll on Mpumalanga roads has made the province one of the unsafest in the country for motorists.

With the festive season around the corner, a gloomy picture has already been painted by the high number of road fatalities.

Nearly 1000 people have died in accidents since January. The latest is Tuesday's horror bus crash in Piet Retief, which claimed 30 lives.

Most of the accidents are caused by recklessness, speed, bad roads, faulty vehicles and drunken driving.

We urge the provincial transport department to crack down on drivers who have a total disregard for safety rules and human lives.

This will help stop the carnage on the roads.
