A lawyer representing Angola has argued that the investigation jeopardised Angolan defence secrets. Francis Teitgen says letting this information come out in a public trial would be an attack "on Angola's sovereignty".

Two of the 42 defendants, Pierre Falcone and Arkady Gaydamak, are accused of traffic- king arms to Angola in the 1990s. Others are accused of taking bribes. - Sapa-AP
