There was drama outside the Saselamani magistrate's court when the enraged wife of a senior royal family member accused the local civic association of being behind the denial of bail for her husband.

After the case was postponed on Monday and the accused were sent to their cells, Freddie Shikundu's wife Letty, a teacher at Manghena Primary School in Limpopo where her husband also works, threw a tantrum and had to be restrained by relatives when she charged at members of the civic association, including chairman Joseph Mabasa, whom she accused of rejoicing because her husband was behind bars.

Shikundu, 49, who is regarded as the deputy chief at Xikundu village in Malamulele, appeared briefly in court with two other men charged with attempted robbery and robbery. The other two accused are Doctor Monareng, 40, from Bushbuckridge, and Ali Macebele, 34, from Jerome village in Malamulele.
