Safa happy with inclusion

Safa Johannesburg has commended the Gauteng government and City of Johannesburg for roping them into the preparations for the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Safa Johannesburg has commended the Gauteng government and City of Johannesburg for roping them into the preparations for the 2009 Confederations Cup.

Phil "Chippa" Mogodi, Safa Johannesburg regional deputy president, has been included in the process by the two tiers of government.

"As Safa Johannesburg region, we would like to thank the provincial government and city for bringing us on board in their preparations," said Mogodi.

"We are dealing with things like the process of getting specialised and ordinary volunteers. That will also include placing them in various projects of the tournament.

"As soccer people, we are honoured that they saw it fit to get us involved. We have too many people who can help in contributing to the success of the tournament."

Tshwane is also involved in preparations for the "Festival of Champions" through Loftus Stadium, a host venue like Ellis Park Stadium.

The influential Mogodi, who is also the Safa Soweto chief executive, is one of the new brooms of administrators expected to join the Safa national executive.

Others include Steve Pila and Oupa Mabula.
