'My wife blames me for rape'

A Randburg man told the Johannesburg high court how his wife blamed him for failing to protect her after she was raped two years ago.

A Randburg man told the Johannesburg high court how his wife blamed him for failing to protect her after she was raped two years ago.

The husband was testifying in the trial of Piet Meya, 29, who allegedly raped the witness's wife and 10 other women in and around Randburg.

The man said his wife had been jogging while he was cycling in the same area.

He waited for her at their meeting spot. When she was late in coming he went looking for her in vain.

"When she reached the gate of our house she was hysterical, screaming at me, saying I had failed to protect her," he said.

"She had lacerations on her neck, face and legs. Our biggest fear was Aids." - Dudu Busani
