The South African Football Association has welcomed a decision by the Tshwane North Football Foundation to assist in the development of the game in the area.

Simon Sebapu, Safa Gauteng national executive committee member, said the work by the foundation needed the support of all community members.

The foundation is using its programmes as part of the contribution to the legacy projects of the 2010 World Cup finals.

Benoni Premier United and Transnet Football School of Excellence's general manager Simon Ngobeni said the foundation will mainly be honouring soccer legends in Tshwane North. The foundation will organise tournaments in December each year in areas such as Mabopane, Soshanguve, GaRankuwa and Hammanskraal to raise funds for the legends.

Legends from the area include Amos "Heel Extension" Mkhari, Brain Mathe, Johannes "Bricks" Mudau, Dan "Dance" Malesela and Russell "Romario" Molefe.

"As Safa, we are happy with the work done by the foundation and we gave them the go-ahead to operate in our region," said Sebapu.

Ngobeni said: "We will be starting by honouring Bra Heel Extension [Mkhari] this year."
