A family is mourning the death of its member who was allegedly stabbed to death by his elder brother during an argument.

Mgcibelo Nkosi, 30, of Milliken Farm at Lothair in Mpumalanga, was stabbed to death during an argument with his 36-year-old brother on Monday night.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said it all started at a tavern during the day.

He said the exact cause of the argument was still not known. He said the brother had returned from a tavern and went to a neighbour's house to ask for food.

"Mgcibelo allegedly followed him and on arrival, at about 8pm, accused his brother of having tried to stab him at the tavern. In the ensuing argument, the brother allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed him once in the upper body. He died at the scene," said Khoabane.

The brother remained at the scene until the police arrived and arrested him. He is due to appear at the Ermelo magistrate's court today.

In another incident, 27-year-old John Banda was stabbed to death with a knife during an argument with another man next to R4 Tavern at Dlamini township, Badplaas, on Sunday.

The suspect was arrested and is due to appear in court soon.
