THE controversy around the redeployment of cadres by the new ANC leadership rages on with allegations that there is a "purging" of former president Thabo Mbeki supporters

In Limpopo, premier Sello Moloto - a known Mbeki loyalist - is under pressure to appoint ANC provincial chairman Cassel Mathale into his cabinet. Mathale - a loyalist of ANC president Jacob Zuma - replaced Moloto as the provincial chairman.

Moloto is said to be unhappy with the provincial leadership trying to impose cabinet appointments on him. This has led to speculations that he could be forced to resign before the end of his term next year.

Yesterday ANC provincial spokesman Ishmael Kgetjepe said: "Moloto was given the ultimatum to appoint Mathale into cabinet. He must carry the honours as head of the cabinet."

Kgetjepe said should Moloto fail to implement the decision the PEC would be compelled "to take action".

In the Western Cape one of the individuals said to be facing the axe is Mbulelo Ncedane, regional secretary of the province's biggest ANC region and the party's proportional representation councillor in the Dullah Omar region.
