An IFP-aligned student body - the South African Democratic Student Movement - has won a landslide victory in the students representative council elections at the Mangosuthu University of Technology.

Sadesmo won the election for the second year in a row, sweeping all 12 seats, leaving its political opposition, the South African Students Congress (Sasco), with nothing. Sasco is linked to the ANC.

Sadesmo won two seats at the University of KwaZulu-Natal' Pietermaritzburg Campus, and t three seats at the Edgewood Campus.

Sadesmo's Brian Masondo said: "Winning the elections was especially sweet considering the problems we as SRC had with management."
