I read with disbelief a Sowetan report on Friday that the isiXhosa ritual from which Fikile Mbalula is graduating, a ritual which supposedly converts boys into men, requires that the initiate sleeps with any woman to take away his boyhood bad luck before he sleeps with the woman he loves.

This is ridiculous, immoral and embarrassing. It degrades women and strips them of their dignity and should not be allowed, especially by women. Period.

I call on all women to be wary of such initiates, in this case (Mbalula), who will lie to them with the intention of transferring their bad luck to the unfortunate woman, a bad luck spell that will lead to the woman not getting married.

So if you are a woman who respects and values herself and wants to get married in the future, please stay away from initiates and stay away from the curse.
