Kaizer Chiefs' Under-17 team emulated their seniors when they annexed the maiden DFX Platinum Stars Under-17 title after beating BidVest Wits 4-3 on penalties at Modderfontein on Saturday

The win comes shortly after their PSL side lifted the inaugural MTN 8 competition recently by blasting Mamelodi Sundowns 4-3 in a penalty shootout in Durban.

On Saturday, at the Platinum Stars ground near Kempton Park, the junior side received R25000, gold medals and a trophy as the first prize.

Eighteen players were presented with clothing vouchers worth R500 each, courtesy of Dunns clothing shop.

In a tense final, both teams failed to score in regulation time, and extra-time yielded no results as well.

Chiefs' penalties were scored by Pule Matlhong, Lucky Baloyi, Sandile Mtshali and Ronald Maila, while Wits' goals came through Lule Peter, Thabo Mangena and Mohale Ramosuny

Chiefs' development coach

Ryder Mofokeng said: "It was a good tournament and it has opened the doors for players who will be doing duty for their Under-19 side next year."
