The presidency has improved the quality of life of South Africans, according to its annual report released yesterday.

But it admits that "crime is unacceptably high and income disparity and other forms of inequality are increasing".

Director-general Frank Chikane told the media yesterday that the "government's far-reaching reforms have strengthened South Africa's economic foundation".
