Shilowa caught everyoneby surprise

The NEC is the highest decision-making body between conferences. When watershed decisions are taken by the committee every member of the movement is expected to support them.

The ANC is regarded as a broad church and diversity is seen as a sign of its strength.

When members differ it does not imply the disintegration of the movement but that there is a vibrant democracy in the organisation.

Members cannot allow the ANC to be turned into a Zanu-PF-like organisation in which leadership is virtually in the hands of the few.

Collective leadership is central to the ANC and cannot be compromised. Demigod-like leaders cannot be created in the ANC.

Every disciplined cadre is urged to embrace NEC decisions and to defend them in public.

It is annoying to suggest certain people intend forming political parties because they are sympathetic to Mbeki. When Jacob Zuma was fired as deputy president in 2005, did we hear anybody suggesting the formation of a new party?

It is more confusing since Mbeki himself has declared his loyalty to the movement.
