Gunman surrenders to cops
A gunman has turned himself in to the police in Pietermaritzburg after he tried to shoot a taxi driver but missed and shot a pedestrian and a motorist.
The gunman was allegedly transporting passengers in a taxi that did not belong to the taxi association operating in the area.
The man was also not known to members of the association.
The incident happened on Wednesday near Imbali crossing along Moses Mabhida Road.
A pedestrian, Mavis Molefe, was shot in the stomach, while Zwelinjani Madlala was shot in the leg. Both are said to be in stable conditions in hospital.
Police spokesman Inspector Joey Jeevan said members of the association had spotted the man picking up passengers in Imbali township.
The members of the association allegedly stopped the man and an altercation ensued.
The man allegedly produced a gun and fired randomly, hitting Molefe, 45, who was walking along the road.
Madlala, 54, is believed to have been driving past when he was struck by a stray bullet, said Jeevan.
The man is expected to appear in court today.
