downs back in business

With Mbulelo Old John Mabizela's antics being the talk of the town, one would hope the other 31 Mamelodi Sundowns players have kept their attention on their PSL match against Golden Arrows.

The Brazilians host Arrows at Super Stadium tomorrow at 8pm.

As team manager Harris Choeu has been kept busy putting out fires ignited all over the place by trouble-courting defender Mabizela, the match has received scant attention, as the saga continues to hog the limelight.

But Downs went on with their othr business with winger Josta Dladla awarded player of the month honours for September.

As a major part of the preparations, Downs would have been happy to welcome back into the team key players Sibusiso Zuma, Lerato Chabangu, Shere Lekgothoane and Surprise Moriri.

These tried and tested stars , missed their last league game on Saturday.

In their absence, young Kurt Lentjies and Sydney Plaatjies were given a run. And both did not disappoint.

But the final result will probably have a lot to do with who, between Arrows and Bafana Bafana's Kagisho Dikgacoi and Jorge Acuna, comes out on top.

Said Choeu: "We have put a lot of effort into this match and it is a must-win for us. We treat all our home games that way."

Arrows mentor Mangqoba Mngqithi acknowledged that Abia Nale and Kagiso Senamela - the backbone of his team - have been having average matches of late, but he said firing blanks was also part of the game.

"Our games against them are always entertaining, and I hope this one matches, if not supersedes the others," said Mngqithi.

Arrows' record victory in the league was set back in the 2005-2006 season when they walloped Downs 5-2 at King Zwelithini Stadium.

Suggesting they could repeat that feat tomorrow night might be stretching it a bit, but Arrows often dish out gutsy performances against their more illustrious opponents.

They did in their opening game of the season when they shocked Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Chatsworth Stadium.
