Chauke makes pro debut
Jackson van Tonder Chauke will make his professional debut at Emperors Palace next Tuesday night, when he faces Zandisile Twani in the lightweight division.
Chauke was eliminated in the Beijing Olympics flyweight round of 32 by Anvar Yunusov in August.
He was also a silver medallist in the flyweight division at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and last year's All African Games.
Chauke, 23, from Tembisa, will have young mentor Colin Nathan in his corner when he fights Twani.
His opponent from Cape Town has little experience, with four wins and five losses. Nathan believes Chauke's experience at the Olympics will see him through.
"He is a something special and I believe he will defeat Twani," said Nathan who has done a marvelous job with starlets Hekkie "Executioner" Budler, Jared "The Storm" Lovett and Grant "Fireball" Fourie at his HotBox Gym in Glenhazel, Johannesburg.
"I am convinced that Jackie will be the champion."
The mentor's other rising stars Charlie Weyer, Owethu Mbira and Ashley Dlamini will also be in action on Tuesday night.
Weyer fights Vus'Umuzi Manyoni, Mbira faces Tyson Sixhakuma and Dlamini will fight Charles Mokholoani - all over four rounds.
"Four fights, four wins noma kanjani," promised Nathan.
Nick Durandt's new find, Jason Kinnear, will fight Justice Phaswane while Harold Volbrecht's rising star, Tommy "Tommy Gun" Oosthuizen will exchange leather with Mfundo Wonga. These two fights will be over four rounds.
Bully "The Bull" Muravha and Jake Els will lock horns in a heavyweight six rounder while Warren "The Warrior" Joubert will top the bill against Danile Bothman in the lightweight division over eight rounds.
All these bouts are presented by Golden Gloves Promotions and will be televised live on SuperSport. Action kicks of at 7.30pm.
