With referee Jerome Damon back from an intensive 2010 World Cup seminar in Switzerland, assistant Enock Molefe is upbeat the duo will make the grade for the final panel.
Damon was part of the 53 match officials who attended the Elite Referees seminar from September 22 to 26 in Zurich.
The seminar dealt with the assessments in the various aspects like technical, physical, mental, energy performance, medical and physiotherapist tests.
English language tests were also done for all participants.
Fifa said in a statement that the aim of the seminar was to select the best referees to be split into groups and be meticulously prepared for the World Cup.
The referees' performances will be analysed, with the results presented to the Fifa executive committee, which will whittle the list down to 38 names on October 22.
Molefe will attend a similar seminar for the assistant referees in Singapore in November where he is also expected to pass with flying colours.
"Jerome and I are doing well. The plan is to go all the way to the finals," said Molefe.
He and Damon are rated in the top three in their respective fields in Africa.
The Cape Town-based Damon, a school teacher just like Molefe of Bloemfontein, could not be reached for comment.
"The referees' and assistants' tests are normal for Fifa ahead of big competitions, it's not only with the 2010 World Cup," added Molefe.
Meanwhile, Molefe is off to Nigeria this weekend for the eagerly-awaited African Champions League semifinal clash between Nigeria's Enyimba and Al-Ahly of Egypt. He will be accompanied by referee Daniel Bennet.
"It's such a great game that many people on the continent are looking forward to," said Molefe.
After that, Molefe will link up with Damon for the October 11 World Cup-Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Tanzania and Cape Verde.
