Herman Lategan, in his letter of September 30, wants to know why former health minister Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is still in the cabinet. The answer is simple.

Her husband Mendi Msimang wastreasurer-general of the ANC under former president Thabo Mbeki, a position now occupied by Mathews Phosa.

So as former treasurer-general Mendi Msimang presided over a portfolio that dealt with ANC finances.

It is alleged that some of the proceeds of the rotten arms deal went to ANC coffers via a dubious outfit known as Chancellor House.

Other questionable finances, that make the ANC reject disclosure of party funding, go through Chancellor House. So Mendi Msimang has a lot of dirt on the ANC.

That's why President Kgalema Motlanthe has retained Tshabalala-Msimang in his cabinet.

When Jacob Zuma came in, Phosa promised that Chancellor House finances were going to be probed but retracted that statement quickly and retreated like a poodle with its tail between its legs. Why? Because of the skeletons in Chancellor House's cupboard.
