The Molemole municipality has suspended two senior officials who were being investigated for financial irregularities.

Municipal manager Sudan Lethole and corporate services manager Isaac Mogashoa have both been suspended with full pay and benefits with immediate effect.

The suspension of the two was effective from Tuesday, following a council meeting.

Municipal spokesman Timothy Molopa confirmed yesterday that the council had resolved to suspend the two officials pending investigations into their activities.

He said Ernest Mokganya, manager for local economic development at the municipality, has been appointed acting municipal manager in the place of Lethole.

"It is true that the Molemole local municipality has suspended municipal manager and corporate services manager, Lethole and Mogashoa, respectively, and that Mokganya has been appointed acting manager," Molopa said yesterday.

He said Mogashoa was accused of misappropriating of funds. This related to R190000 for a strategic planning session that was held in Louis Trichardt at the beginning of the year.

It is alleged that the money was paid to a service provider but the council had later identified some irregularities in the payment.

Lethole, according to Molopa, was accused of not implementing council resolutions pertaining to two tenders, one for the purchase of traffic vehicles and another of security services.

He said no time frame had been given for the completion of the investigations.
