At the beginning of the 20th century Henry Ford and other car makers introduced the assembly line, where each worker worked on only one part of the car. Soon a car could be built in a day and a half.

Improvements continued until by 1916 a car could be built in as little as 90 minutes.

Most plants today turn out more than 50 cars an hour and the fastest turn out more than 100. -
