Five ATM bombers escaped with a substantial amount of cash, leaving behind R30000 scattered in front of the machine in Leslie, Mpumalanga.

The blast took place at a filling station in Shaka Maseko Street on Monday, according to the police.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said a BMW with five occupants was spotted in the street at about 1.15am. The men allegedly held up petrol attendants and robbed them of R5000 in cash.

"Shortly thereafter, there was a loud bang at the ATM. The men allegedly took a substantial amount of cash."

Khoabane said police found R30000 scattered in front of the machine. He said no arrests had yet been made.
