Former Pretoria Cardinals softball star Leroy Aaron Molala has died at Kalafong Hospital after suffering from stroke.

Molala, 55, of 103 Moroe Street, Atteridgeville, was known as one of the fastest outfielders and a committed team player. He died on Monday afternoon. He was among what was described as the second generation of Cardinals. They came just after the generation of the late Sowetan entertainment editor Elliot "Guava" Makhaya, Sejamotho Motau and Fred Bodibe, among other softball giants. According to his widow, Porkey Molala, Molala survived three strokes starting in February last year, another in May this year and on August 6 this year.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised, but his widow said the family was planning to bury him on Friday morning since the undertaker was fully booked for Saturday. - McKeed Kotlolo
