Branco Milenkovic won the purse bid to stage the WBC junior-bantamweight title eliminator between Evans Mbamba and Thai Devid Lookmahanak.

Milenkovic, who co-promotes with Jacob Matlala through their Branco Sports Production (BSP) consortium, announced yesterday that they had won the bid last Friday night.

"It was a substantial amount," was all he could say yesterday. "This was a great year for South African fighters considering that in the past six months we successfully negotiated for nine legitimate world championship fights (7 IBF and two WBC)."

Milenkovic said the proposed date for the Mbamba-Lookmahanak fight is December 5 in a venue yet to confirmed.

BSP's first WBC eliminator took place at Orlando Communal Hall in 2004 between Mzonke Fana and Filipino Randy Suico. That bloody fight, which Fana won on points, was voted Fight of the Year.

Fana went on to challenge Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera, who stopped "The Rose of Khayelitsha" in four rounds for the WBC lightweight belt in Texas in 2005. Mbamba, the left-handed fighter from Duduza in Ekurhuleni, holds the WBC International belt. He is rated fifth while Lookmahanak occupies the third spot.

The winner will challenge Mexican Christian Mijares, who holds both the WBC and the WBA titles. Mbamba is undefeated after 15 fights (7 KOs) while Lookmahanak has 18 wins (9 KOs) and two losses.
