A Mpumalanga man was yesterday sentenced to 15 years in jail after being found guilty of murdering a 22-year-old man he had accused of "being full of nonsense".

Oupa Madonsela, 24, of Driekoppies near Malelane in Nkomazi stabbed and killed Mncedisi Ndlovu last September.

Madonsela appeared in the Nkomazi magistrate's court where he was found guilty of murder.

Schoemansdal police spokesman Constable Nompilo Qwabe said the murder took place at a tavern where the two men had been drinking.

"Ndlovu was about to go home when Madonsela accused him of being "full of nonsense". Madonsela stabbed Ndlovu several times in the chest.

"Patrons called an ambulance which took Ndlovu to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival," Qwabe said.

Schoemansdal station commissioner Superintendent Dora Xaba said she was "happy with the sentence".

"I am happy with the way our courts operate. This sends a clear message to criminals that they will be punished for their crimes.

"However, I urge people to consult the police if they have arguments because fighting has bad results," said Xaba.
