Murder suspect Richard "Magwaza" Nyundu, 39, allegedly has connections in the upper echelons of the SAPS.

That did not help him yesterday when he tried to sneak out of prison.

Nyundu allegedly tried to used one of his friends, a police inspector, to obtain R1000 bail for a murder charge he is facing in the Witbank magistrate's court.

The bail bid allegedly annoyed the investigating officer.

Nyundu's case was called back to court and he was denied bail. He is expected to appear in the same court on Friday for a formal bail application. He now faces extra charges of attempted murder and malicious damage to property.

Nyundu allegedly stormed the house of his former girlfriend Nokuthula Mnisi, 32, in Witbank and shot her dead.

Mnisi was shot five times in front of her daughter, 13, and other family members on Thursday.

Mnisi's brother Jacob, who is also a kwaito sensation Mshoza's husband, said: "We are happy that bail has been denied."
