Two future stars emerged last week - one in a Dingaan Thobela-Knockout Promotions (DTKP) tournament on Thursday night and the other in a Branco Sports Productions (BSP) programme on Friday.
Jared "The Storm" Lovett and Cleutus "Schoolboy" Mbele are the two new starlets.
These youngsters, aged 22 and 18 respectively, have already made names for themselves but their performance last week confirmed a bright future for both.
Lovett, whose ability is perfected by trainer Colin Nathan, registered his fifth short-route win against Toto Mubenga, who succumbed in the second round.
Granted Mubenga, who suffered his ninth defeat from 21 fights, was cannon fodder (stepping stone) but praise must go to Lovett for the manner in which he blew him away. Their bout, scheduled for eight rounds, topped the well-attended and professionally-organised DTKP box-and-dine affair at Silverstar Casino in Muldersdrift.
This tournaments, presented by three musketeers Dingaan Thobela, Allan Young and Jeff Ellis, gave young fighters the opportunity to showcase their skills.
Kyle Smith, Joey Stiglingh Kyle Bothma and Jason Bedeman all lived up to promoters' expectations. They defeated Victor Hlungwani, Sibusiso Khumalo, Nkululeko Mozelisi and Tsiko Molovhedzi respectively.
Godfrey Mabunda stopped Zane Mandel in three rounds while the least said about Johnny Koen's arrogance, the better. He was disqualified in the third round against Sibusiso Mkhwanazi.
Ruben Groenewald stopped Mongezi Ndzamela in three of their scheduled six-round heavyweight fight while Steven Castle and Mudimba Mwanza drew over four rounds.
On Friday, Mbele, a grade 11 student at Ponego Secondary School in Katlehong left tongues wagging with both his precision punching and power. He blasted Pfariso Neluvhalani in four.
Mbele, who fights out of the Jabulani Malinga stable, chalked up his third stoppage in eight wins against a defeat. Their action-packed bantamweight fight, which had fans on the edge of their seats, was scheduled for six rounds. It formed part of BSP's five-bout programme.
In the main contest, SA and WBC international junior middleweight holder, Vincent "The Rock" Vuma, flattened Tanzanian Mada Maugo in four. This international junior middleweight fight was scheduled for 10 rounds.
