He was speaking during cross-examination of Mpanza during the trial of brothers Thulani and Sibusiso Cele who have been charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, indecent assault, crimen injuria and malicious damage to property.
Mpanza's story made headlines last year when the Cele brothers allegedly ripped off her pants, assaulted her and paraded her around Umlazi's T-section half-naked. They then allegedly burnt down her home.
According to Mpanza, the Cele brothers had slapped and punched her before tearing her pants off. She alleges she was kicked repeatedly while lying on the ground.
De Klerk asked why Mpanza had not seen a doctor. Mpanza, 25, said she did not have any money.
"Didn't police tell you it was free, that they would even take you there?" asked De Klerk.
Mpanza replied: "Many things happened on that day."
De Klerk said both accused had denied assaulting Mpanza.
"They asked you why you were wearing pants. You then tore your own pants off and went home."
Mpanza had admitted she was angry she was not allowed to wear pants in terms of a local ban.
De Klerk also raised questions about the burning of Mpanza's home . According to evidence she reported the assault to Captain Khephu Ndlovu who took her and her family home to collect some clothes and they left the area.
She said she was not there when the house was burnt down.
