Bitter row

It is indisputable that a noble idea is most likely to founder if it is badly executed.

It is indisputable that a noble idea is most likely to founder if it is badly executed.

A case in point is the Northern Cape government's project to erect a statue in honour of late ANC stalwart Sol Plaatje, which has sparked a bitter row between his family and the authorities.

As a result the Plaatje family dissociated itself from the plans to unveil the statue on Heritage Day this week, forcing the provincial government to cancel the commemorative event.

The authorities are under fire for involving the family only weeks before the unveiling event - and even then just to inform them about the readiness of the project.

How insensitive of the authorities to treat the Plaatje family so casually.
