Out of the 20 original contestants that went through to auditions for the reality show So You Think You Can Dance, only 14 are left.

This week saw the elimination of 19-year-old hip-hop dancer Tamara. Her elimination follows the disqualification of Blaze from the popular contest after he became ill and was unable to dance.

Tamara and Blaze's departure means that for the first time in the competition a new partnership will come about when Bathembu and Marise team up this week to dance for their lives.

Bathembu previously partnered Tamara and Marise with Blaze.

Tamara's elimination was not the unanimous choice of judges Harold van Buuren, David Matemela and Adele Blank.

Lead judge Van Buuren acknowledged as much when he told the hip-hop and dancehall specialist that her inability to shine in genres outside her own had affected her performance during the contest.

"This competition is about performance and when you had to dance for your life on tonight's show we saw your energy decrease," Van Buuren said.

For the remaining dancers the heat is on this week as they compete to see who will be crowned Mzansi's favourite dancer.
