A 16-year-old schoolgirl, who allegedly stabbed her brother to death, has been released into the custody of her parents.

The girl of the farm Kloof in Iswete, Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, appeared briefly in the local magistrate's court on Monday and her case was postponed until next week.

Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the girl's 21-year-old brother allegedly disciplined her with a stick for having multiple relationships.

"He turned away from her and she came from behind him and stabbed him once in the neck," Khoabane said.

"He died on the scene."

The police were called in but she was left in the custody of her parents after being warned to appear in court.
