Forty-one beneficiaries from underprivileged communities in the Mopani district in Limpopo are looking forward to a brighter future after they received study bursaries from the Avuxeni Computer Academy.

The beneficiaries include those who dropped out of high schools in Grade 11 or 12 owing to a lack of finances.

Selection was carried out with the help of local municipalities and most of those picked were from poor families.

According to Avuxeni Computer Academy marketing director George Baloyi each beneficiary will receive a R15000 bursary and study for a diploma in a computer, train a trainee and an assessor's course.

The bursaries form part of the company's total R615000 bursary scheme that has been allocated this year to assist students in the province.

Baloyi says the course will be done in less than six months and on completion the successful bursars will be placed at the college.

"We have decided to come in and exercise our social responsibility after being approached by the ANC office in the Tzaneen municipality," Baloyi says.

"The office told us they were inundated with letters asking for study bursaries, which they cannot to finance,"

Meanwhile Greater Tzaneen municipal chief whip Joyce Nkwinika says she is happy that the students' dream of a brighter future will be fulfilled.

She says at one stage she even used money from her own pocket to assist students because the municipality was unable to help all students.

Nkwinika has appealed to the students to work hard and pass to avoid disgracing the municipality.

She says initially her municipality approached the college to help poor students in the area, but the college decided to help a number of students from the five local municipalities under the Mopani district.
