Science education in Mpumalanga schools received a major boost when a cellphone company handed over a R1 million mobile science laboratory.

Vodacom Foundation launched the Ndzalo Mobile Science Laboratory at Mthombo High School in Zwelisha near Nelspruit.

The laboratory will visit 12 schools, six high schools and their feeder primary schools.

Most schools in Mpumalanga experience difficulties owing to a shortage of equipment.

The laboratory will allow pupils and teachers to conduct experiments and do research.

Weekly workshops are conducted to provide skills training for teachers and tutorial lessons for mathematics and science pupils.

The workshops are supplemented by daily visits to schools by experienced field workers to keep tabs on the project.
