The IFP intends to exploit the political turmoil in the ruling ANC to garner more votes in the coming elections.

Party leader, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, pictured, told delegates at the provincial conference in Alberton, Ekurhuleni, yesterday that he was in a joyous mood.

"This gives me hope, not only for the forthcoming elections, but also for the future of our party in Gauteng," he said.

He pleaded with delegates to rise to the country's challenges, which he said were more complex than the fight against apartheid.

"The ruling party is tired, they have run out of steam and ideas," said Buthelezi.

He said in the midst of the political free fall people were looking for other choices, and the IFP should offer leadership.

"No political party has a right to govern, only a right to aspire to govern. The ANC may be in office, but it never occurs to them that anything will ever topple them."

The party's chairman, Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, said the ANC had led the country into a deep crisis.

"Our country is in a deep crisis, ravaged by leadership poverty," she said.
