Central Gauteng Athletics have joined forces with singer Kabelo Mabalane, pictured, and supermarket chain Pick 'n Pay in staging a road running race in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Sunday.

The series, taking place on September 28, is called the Bouga Luv Development Foundation Series, and is aimed primarily at schoolchildren.

Organisers have also invited some professional athletes to the race.

The race consists of 10km, 5km and 2,5km runs.

As a part of his mandate, Mabalane - who was recently appointed Olympics brand ambassador - has a mandate to get the youth in South Africa to become active and make healthy lifestyle choices.

"We are targeting about 5000 children to participate in this event," said CGA president Snowy Matthews.

"CGA is passionate about development, and this event is the perfect opportunity for children to become actively involved in the sport," Matthews said.

The race starts and finishes from Ikageng Primary School in Zone 4, Diepkloof. For more information contact CGA at 011-873-2726.
