Eastern Cape's top boxing promoter Mzimase Mnguni's Eyethu Boxing Promotions will stage its first ever tournament next Monday night.

This will happen at the Orient Theatre on September 29. His six-bout card will start at 7pm, and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.

Mnguni said his original date was Sunday but the unavailability of SuperSport's outside broadcasting vans forced him to switch to Monday.

"Its not a train smash. When you book a show with broadcasting media houses, you've got to make sure that the venue and the outside broadcasting vans are available.

"Now in my situation, the hall and OB vans were not available for Sunday. I looked at Saturday, the venue was available but the vans were not hence I moved to Monday.

" I am doing this knowing well that I will not get a big crowd", said Mnguni whose many fighters' skills are honed by Vuyani Bungu, his younger brother Dudu Bungu and Mveleli Luzipho at Mnguni's famed Eyethu Boxing Gym in Mdantsane.

One of those fighters, the evergreen Zolile Mbityi will top the bill in a non-title 10-rounder against Argentinian Sergio Carlos Santillan.

Mbityi, 38, the former SA and IBO flyweight and SA super flyweight champ, who is currently the IBO super flyweight belt holder, will use this fight as a warm-up before he defends against Masibulele "Hawk" Makepula.

"Mbityi is an old man. He cannot afford to be away from action for a longer period." Santillan, 34, was outpointed by Oscar Chauke in March in Bloemfontein for the WBF super bantamweight belt.
