Members of this movement have not forgotten what caused the flames engulfing the ANC.
It all started with the judge ruling that Jacob Zuma had [an apparently] corrupt relationship with Schabir Shaik.
That inference led to Zuma being fired and the ANC did not stop Thabo Mbeki from relieving Zuma of his duties.
The baffling question is why the executive was not strong enough, or had the courage and wisdom to advise Mbeki not to fire Zuma based on the judge's inferences? Equally, one judge has inferred that Mbeki cannot be exonerated from this fiasco. Now we hear reports that blind loyalty will make certain ministers leave the cabinet when Mbeki gets the boot.
A colossal blunder was committed by Mbeki's cabinet and his closest allies because they made him out to be bigger than the organisation and turned the ANC into a divided house.
The organisation is founded on the premise of collective leadership. The Constitution gives the president the prerogative to hire and fire, but Mbeki failed to understand that he was involved in the hiring and firing of ANC members.
Under such circumstances the organisation reigns supreme and Mbeki himself is fully aware that he is deployed by the ANC and is accountable to the party.
