MTN8 finalists Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have kept focus and both claim the spirit in their respective camps is still high for the rescheduled final of the lucrative competition in Durban tomorrow.
The match was postponed to tomorrow because of a water-logged pitch at Kings Park Rugby Stadium on Saturday night. Kick-off is at 8.15pm.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced that fans who bought tickets for Saturday's final but will not be able to attend the rescheduled tie will be refunded.
The fans can claim a refund from any Computicket outlets before the end of business today.
Chiefs' publicist Siyabulela Makunga and his counterpart at Sundowns, Mahlatse Mphahlele, yesterday told Sowetan their players have managed to cope with the postponement.
Said Makunga: "Our players are professionals and can deal with such circumstances. Though they were looking forward to playing on the scheduled date, they will still give it their all tomorrow. They have made a commitment to win this trophy for the fans and they will be out there to fulfil their obligation."
Added Mphahlele: "We are equally ready for Tuesday and we will give what we would have given in this game on Saturday. Our preparations are continuing well and whoever is going to play on Tuesday will represent the team well. We are ready for Chiefs."
Daniel Bennett, who was assigned to handle the encounter, said on Saturday:
"After careful consideration from the refereeing team, we had no choice but to call the match off as we had to take the safety of the players into consideration.
"The pitch was inspected at 9am, again at midday, and then at 3pm and there was no improvement with the rain forecast until in the evening."
Kjetil Siem, PSL's chief executive, has apologised to both the teams and the fans for the postponement, stressing that the situation was beyond the league's control.
"We understand that fans have come from far afield to Durban and because the match could not take place [as scheduled], we encourage them to come again tomorrow as Wednesday is a holiday," said Siem on Saturday.
