I curiously await the legal advice President Thabo Mbeki will seek in Judge Nicholson's ruling.

Legally, I do not think he has recourse since he was not a party to the proceedings, and such a move is unprecedented in our law. It would have been astute for the NPA to secure Mbeki's affidavit since it was a motion to refute allegations that he is plotting to thwart Jacob Zuma's political career. It would have given Mbeki an opportunity to dispute political conspiracy and could have put the court in a better position to assess the allegation objectively. The only hope for Mbeki is to appeal the ruling.
