One man was arrested after a gang of 14 robbed a Coca-Cola factory in Hercules, Pretoria, police said.

Constable Patricia Simelane said yesterday a gang robbed the factory of R30000.

Simelane said: "The gang entered the 24-hour factory. They opened one safe and took an undisclosed amount of money."

She said the men also took R30000 from a money bag that had just arrived on the premises.

Security company ADT alerted the police to the break-in.

"When the police met the suspects, still at the factory, a shootout erupted and police and ADT vehicles were damaged," Simelane said.

"Some of the police officials sustained minor injuries."

The police arrested one man at Bella-Ombre, near Mamelodi, after a tip-off. He was found in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a shotgun and R17000. Police were searching for his accomplices, Simelane said. - Sapa
