Two men accused of assaulting a motorist in an apparent road rage incident appeared in the Randburg magistrate's court yesterday.
Craig Robert Thomas, 24, and Pierre van der Berg, 56, turned themselves in to the Randburg police on Monday after the police had launched a manhunt for them for assaulting Matthews Moremong last weekend.
The men were freed on bail.
Moremong was travelling on Malibongwe Drive when the men provoked him and threw zap signs at him.
Moremong was on his way to check on security guards posted at a minerals and metallurgy company. He sustained injuries to his face and back.
The assault was caught on closed circuit television. During the attack Thomas, a paramedic with Netcare 911, was wearing his uniform.
After Sowetan showed footage of the incident to his employers Thomas was suspended from his job pending a disciplinary inquiry.
He has also been reported to the Health Professions Council of South Africa - a body that regulates the professional conduct of healthcare workers.
At the time of the attack the two men were travelling in Van der Berg's VW Polo.
The men were not asked to plead and are expected to appear in court again on October 27.
