Departmental spokesman Nonkululeko Mbatha said the driver of the car lost control on the R621 and the vehicle overturned.
"Two people were declared dead on the scene and a third person was taken to hospital," she said.
In a separate collision on the N2 freeway, near Sibaya Casino,
eight people were seriously injured.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found bodies scattered on the freeway with "some in severe pain".
