Can you imagine how frustrating it is to pay for a damaged car after an accident and your insurance has never bothered to assess it - but remembered to timeously debit premiums for it?

Gerson Nemadodzi has been going through this for the past two years. Nemadodzi , of Thohoyandou in Venda, bought a Mazda 626 from GP Combrink CC Sales in July 2006.

The garage recommended and assisted him in obtaining insurance cover from African Independent Insurance.

Three weeks after receiving the car he was involved in an accident in Thohoyandou.

"I contacted African Independent Insurance. But no one showed up to assess the car and have done nothing so far, yet they debit their premiums without fail," Nemadodzi says.

He has also continued to pay his instalment while the car is collecting dust and rental at a scrap yard. For the past two months, the insurance has been evasive.

In July Consumer Line contacted the insurance's manager, Znita O'Callaghan, who said their computer systems were off-line.

In August her response was the same. This month she was reported to be on leave. Nemadodzi will now take the matter up with the Fias Ombudsman.
