The Chevrolet Aveo might not have good street credentials like the Opel Corsa and VW's Citi Golf, but that does not mean you can easily brush it aside.

General Motors South Africa is determined to make you think the Aveo hatch is in the same class as the streetwise cars.

The launch theme, in Pretoria West, was Loaded with Lifestyle .

And loaded it is.

The Aveo does not lag in the technological department either.

It boasts electronic throttle control and multi-port fuel injection.

The 1,6 litre petrol engine is packed with a power output of 77kW and torque of 145Nm.

A five-speed manual transmission is specified for the Aveo Hatchback 1,6 L, LS and LT models, with the option of a four-speed automatic transmission with overdrive on the LS variant.

The automatic transmission features "hold control" (HC) mode, a button activated mode that allows the transmission to hold a selected ratio. If HC is activated with drive selected and in fourth gear, the transmission will shift down to third gear and hold that selection.

The fresh design is an extensive revision of the previous model and both internally and externally the new Aveo Hatchback offers significant advances over its predecessor.

As a product of the new generation Chevrolet global design philosophy, the Aveo hatch takes numerous styling cues from the popular Captiva SUV, the first true example of this new wave design process.

Side vents on each side of the grille provide a further bold accent.
