The case against Zuma dragged on for too long to allow infiltration by unscrupulous political leaders, whose intention was to settle political scores.
The use of state resources by the executive has been one of the reasons advanced by Zuma's supporters from the beginning.
Now that the judgment points to the president and his ministers interfering with the case, thus rendering it weaker, the youth league will push to have Mbeki and some ministers vacate their positions.
Or he will be forced to reinstate Zuma as deputy president. A tough call for Mbeki who fired Zuma in 2005 after a short meeting with Vusi Pikoli in Chile.
In wanting to protect some of his ministers against Pikoli, who wanted his independence and threatened to arrest anyone who obstructed justice and interfered unnecessarily, such as Justice Minister Brigitte Mabandla, Mbeki suspended him.
Therefore the call to recall Mbeki needs to be supported since there are so many unanswered questions.
